EV & Hybrid Collision Repair in Richardson, High Voltage Handled

A bump on Arapaho Road can reach farther into an electric car than it looks, because the battery, wiring and cooling lines sit right where crashes land.

What a Battery Changes About Bodywork

An electric car is built around a large battery pack bolted into the floor, with orange high-voltage cables running to motors at one or both ends. Many newer EVs also use large single-piece castings in place of dozens of stamped parts, and those castings often carry replace-or-section rules of their own. Hybrids add a smaller pack, usually under the rear seat or cargo floor, alongside a gas engine. Before we touch the body, the high-voltage system is shut down the way the maker specifies. Then we inspect the pack, cables and coolant lines, because a hit that misses the bumper can still scrape the underside. You get the findings explained in everyday terms, not engineering shorthand.

What Goes Into a High-Voltage Repair

Most of this work happens before and after the bodywork itself.

  • Maker-specified shutdown

The service disconnect is pulled or the system is isolated per the procedure, then we verify zero voltage before work begins.

  • Rated gloves and insulated tools

Technicians wear voltage-rated gloves and use insulated hand tools whenever they work near the high-voltage system.

  • Pack and underbody look-over

The battery enclosure, its mounting points and the shields beneath it are inspected for dents, cracks or scrapes.

  • Orange cable and connector check

High-voltage cables near the impact are traced for pinches, chafing or damaged connectors.

  • Coolant loop pressure test

Battery and inverter cooling lines are checked for leaks, since a slow loss can overheat the pack later.

  • Casting and floor measurements

Rockers, floor and any large castings are measured against factory data to confirm the structure around the pack.

  • Paint cure held to battery limits

Booth bake temperatures stay within what the maker allows so the pack isn't stressed while the paint cures.

  • Power-up and module setup

After repair, the system is re-energized in order, faults are cleared and driver-assist sensors are calibrated if needed.

How an Electric Car Gets Repaired Here

  1. 1

    Arrive and make safe

The car arrives on a flatbed, or is driven in if that's safe. We check for warning messages and damage near the pack. The high-voltage system is shut down and verified before any panel comes off. If anything looks off with the battery, the car is parked in a separated spot while we follow the maker's guidance.

  2. 2

    Inspect and plan the parts

With the system safe, we lift the car at approved points and inspect underneath. Damaged castings, brackets and cables are identified against the procedure. EV parts can take time, so they're ordered as soon as the plan is approved. You hear a realistic timeline instead of a hopeful one.

  3. 3

    Repair, re-energize, verify

Structure and panels are repaired, then paint is cured within battery-safe limits. The system is reconnected and scanned for faults. Sensors are calibrated, and a test drive confirms charging, regen and driver assist all behave. Then the car is yours again.

Why EV and Hybrid Drivers Bring Cars Here

  • Battery first, body second

No panel work happens until the high-voltage system is confirmed safe. That order never changes.

  • We like explaining the tech

Curious how your pack is cooled or why a casting gets replaced? Ask. We enjoy walking owners through how their car is built.

  • Handy to the Telecom Corridor

EVs are a common sight around Richardson, Plano and Addison, and we're an easy drive off the Bush Turnpike or Belt Line Road.
